we have a antique cash register ( the type where a price tag pops up in the window when you push a button down. i think it may be from the 50s or before

it is like this one but without the ornamental texture

The feature you describe doesn't narrow the field much in terms of a time frame... what make is it? What style is it? Plain metal? Wood? Inlaid wood? Fancy cast metal?
